My Dream Closet

A spacious closet is a great feature for any house, and I especially found this to be the case for my own home.

As an interior designer, I knew my former closet’s outdated style and inadequate wardrobe space needed to be refreshed. In order to prove my closet’s full potential, I conceptualized a design that involved streamlining the lighting, updating the interior design, and adding functionality.

My closet’s spaciousness was under-utilized and superseded by its archaic style and non-operational arrangement. The incomplete wardrobe hanging, drawer and storage options were quite limited. In order to transform it into a full-functioning closet, I had to recreate the space to be much more than a closet.

I added a new dressing table that offered beautiful and easy-access storage with soft-close drawers and cabinets. Wall-to-wall hanging space was created, and corresponding cabinets for clothing and jewelry were included to maximize neat storage. Oh, and, of course, I designed a floor-to-ceiling shoe wall with shelving to both display and consolidate my shoes.

With the original 46 separate light fixtures and a massive electrical switching station, I had my work cut out for me. My plan was to streamline and modernize the lighting with bespoke dressing lamps and chandeliers. I decided upon crystal chandeliers for ambiance as well as new dressing table lamps that added warmth, yet without competing with the chandeliers. I was able to complete my closet with installed surround sound so I could enjoy my favorite soothing music while dressing each day or evening.

I fashioned the space into a regal yet relaxed style to modernize my closet’s interior design. Selecting Calcutta gold porcelain tile floors and Calcutta gold marble slabs gave rise to a majestic but approachable panache. A statement-piece dressing bench was acquired through my friend who specializes in unique finds.

Keeping the walls and fixtures tone-on-tone with neutral and creams allows for easy selections of clothing, as now, nothing competes with the wardrobe itself.

With a dressing table that offers easy-access and plentiful storage; a dedicated dressing area; cabinets for clothing and jewelry; additional shelving and hanging space, my renovated closet has become my own special haven within my home.

Working on my master closet was a challenge I welcomed with open arms. I loved every minute of it, and I am so pleased with the end result. Every girl’s dream is to have a magnificent closet, and my dream has become a reality.
