Marvelous Mirrors

Borromeo Mirror by Eichholt

Borromeo Mirror by Eichholt

As an interior designer, I may very well never have completed a design project without using a mirror. With luxuriously carved or gilt frames, extravagant finishes, and complex shapes, mirrors can naturally yield more decoration than necessity. Form and function exist side by side by way of a well-chosen and cleverly hung mirror.

Not only do mirrors boast beautiful and decorative display features, they offer many practical uses as well. Mirrors add openness to a space in the form of a “window,” creating the illusion of a larger room. Their unique reflective ability allows for a space to be expanded into a seemingly more lavish area prevalent with inherent light.

My absolute favorite thing about decorating with mirrors is the fact they provide boundless solutions for addressing interiors. Where clear reflection can shine illumination in an otherwise dark corner, a mirror could be considered. Mirrors can channel and disperse available light into a gorgeous, amplified glow. Or, when certain wall spaces are not suitable for paintings or other original art, a decorative mirror adds an artful element of its own accord and style.

As I travel to various design markets, conceptualize interiors for clients, and while planning the best possible product availability for my P&B Design Source studio, I find many mirrors of high quality and chic flair. This blog provides a glimpse at just a few I find truly marvelous, which is no easy task considering how many stylish mirrors exist.

Camilla Mirror by Christopher Guy

Camilla Mirror by Christopher Guy

The Camillia Mirror is one of the legendary designs by Christopher Guy and was launched to commemorate the chapeau worn by Camilla Parker Bowles at her royal wedding. I love the 20th-century silver, convex glass exterior because of the elegant and traditional, yet slightly contemporary, details that are so obviously stated. This mirror would make the perfect focal point above a mantel with its striking, captivating features. Since this mirror was inspired by the famous Duchess of Cornwall, it certainly is the definition of majestic!

Omni Mirror by Century Furniture

I adore this Omni Mirror by Century Furniture because it can go with any color palette and style décor. Crafted from polished aluminum, the clean, square shape of this exquisite mirror would serve well as a foundational background to highlight a set of crystal glassware or a vase full of delicate flowers. The large size and openness of this brilliant mirror could allow more light to travel through a space, making the accessories and items in front of it sparkle. Strategically placing your mirror to reflect something dazzling, whether it is glassware or a chandelier, is something I do for my clients to add a little flamboyance to their homes.

Leighton Mirror by Eichholtz

The Leighton Mirror by Eichholtz is truly a statement piece. Crafted from mahogany wood with a black finish, this stunning mirror is loaded with texture. The dark, romantic details that make up this fascinating work of art can add so much personality to a room, especially when accompanied by the right wall color. I recommend its use on a white or neutral colored wall, perhaps on beige or taupe, to really make it stand out and pop. Another option is to hang the mirror next to glittering gold curtains or furniture to create beautiful contrast and a sense of regality.

Dressing Mirror by Global View

Dressing Mirror by Global View

Taking a nod from the 1920s, Global Views is bringing Art Deco glam into the present! Its Dressing Mirror features three rich, warm mahogany wood veneer panels. The panels open with brass-plated steel piano hinges to reveal a full-length dressing mirror, complete with nylon glides to level it, according to your space’s needs. I like how this vertical mirror reflects and showcases the room in which it is used. This mirror is simple, made for real-life use, and yet is rife with sophistication.

The best thing about decorating with mirrors is that they come in all shapes, sizes and styles, so there is something for everyone! Whether you prefer traditional décor, a more contemporary approach, or a transition in between, I promise to reflect a well-planned and stunning design vision within your home.
